Answer: I want to serve on the Los Alamos School Board because this is my home, and
I care deeply about the success of our schools. With strong roots in this community, I
bring a broad perspective as both a graduate and parent of three LAPS students. Just
as my family has become lifelong learners here, I want to help build a strong future
where every child thrives. I am committed to academic excellence, student
achievement, and preparing our children for success.
Question 2: What are your qualifications and experiences that have prepared you to
serve on this board?
Answer: With 25+ years at LANL in leadership roles, I bring proven experience in policy,
compliance, and staff development. I’ve managed $40M+ budgets and $100M
subcontracts with strong audit, compliance, and financial stewardship skills. I hold an
MBA plus certifications in project management, safety, and leadership. As an active
community volunteer, I have deep local roots and a record of recognition for
responsibility and innovation.
Question 3: What are the main challenges facing our school district in the next four
years, and how do you propose addressing them?
Answer: Key challenges are academic achievement, student safety, and financial
stewardship. I will support teachers with resources and proven practices to ensure
students excel in reading, writing, math, and science while building critical thinking
skills. I will work with administrators, law enforcement, and mental health experts to
strengthen safety and well-being. With 25+ years managing multimillion-dollar budgets,
I’ll ensure transparent, accountable use of funds to prioritize student success.
Question 4: How would you engage with school staff and parents to better understand
our schools’ strengths and weaknesses?
Answer: I will engage staff, parents, and students by actively listening and fostering
open communication through school visits and forums. Transparency and student
voices matter, and I’ll ensure concerns are heard. I’ll collaborate with teachers and staff
to support their professional insights and resource needs. Parents are vital partners, and I’ll encourage involvement through PTOs, school events, and feedback
opportunities to align policies with family priorities.
